Marco Franchina was born in Pisa, Italy and came to the states at the age of 3. In 1982 at the age of 21, Marco moved to Milan, Italy to begin his career as a fashion photographer. He was fortunate to study under legendary fashion photographers Avi Meroz, Fabrizio Ferri and Peter Gravelle who he work for as first assistant.
In 1983 Marco branched out on his own, photographing for prestigious Italian magazines such as Mondo Uomo, Linea Uomo, Amica and L'uomo Vogue. Franchina then moved to New York City to shoot for Andy Warhol's Interview magazine. Where he was commissioned to photograph Oliver Stone, River Phoenix, Winona Ryder, Gretchen Mol, Edward James Olmos, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jewel, Boz Scaggs, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Willie Nelson, Sheena Easton and Natalie Merchant.
At the time living in New York City. Franchina was approached by an Australian agency to work in Australia. He worked for top fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Follow Me Men, Studio and Dolly. After shooting all over Europe, he moved back to New York City in 1990 shooting for Interview, Rolling Stone, Modern Bride, Shape, Seventeen and SELF in addition to various fashion catalogues.
In 1995 Franchina moved from NYC to Los Angeles to pursue his love for film working behind the camera on a number of music videos and commercials.
Currently, he resides in Los Angeles working on and further experimenting with his fine art photography.
